What is Safety Maturity?

Protecting-your-asset_5518db6cfd746dbfd3c32779a253e0f0

Safety Maturity is a measure along a continuum of culture defined originally by Professor Patrick Hudson.

Five levels are defined; the most basic and risk exposed being “Pathological”, in which the organisation is characterised by a “Who cares as long as we’re not caught” environment.

This moves through more pro-active stages of managed risk, as the organisation is defined by becoming more informed and increasing trust and accountability for safety through effective leadership.

The ultimate goal is to achieve a “Generative” culture, in which safety and wellbeing is integrated fully within the business and is characterised by an environment where “Safety and wellbeing is just how we do business around here”.
