To mark National Safe Work month, SafetyWorks held a screening of Deepwater Horizon on 18th October with our sponsors ARTC and Port of Newcastle.
The event was a great success with over 50 people joining us to watch the movie followed by a discussion about the key lessons we can take from the disaster and apply in our workplaces.
There were many lessons we took away from the movie and subsequent discussion including; the need to ensure we are constantly seeking out and controlling risks, no matter how seemingly large or small; focussing on strong situational awareness; not accepting errors and faults as “normal”; continuously challenging when we have concerns about exposure to risk; and understanding that reducing LTIFR and TRIFR is not a predictor of reduced fatality risk. If you haven’t seen the movie, we encourage you to do so.
