This week’s theme for National Safe Work Month of managing WHS risks and prevent harm highlights consultation as an essential part of work, health, and safety.
There are many ways to consult with your employees, but how do you know if you’re getting WHS consultation right?
✅ Issues, outcomes, and solutions are widely disseminated via a variety of platforms, including toolbox talks, intranet, email, and noticeboards.
✅ People are actively engaged and want to share their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions for improvement.
✅ You have a diverse range of voices, from extraverts, introverts, those with roles directly impacted and those that may be indirectly impacted people – all actively contributing feedback
✅ Effective feedback loops, ongoing two-way dialogue between all levels within the business
✅ An acute awareness and appreciation for the information shared by the frontline experts.
✅ You and your employees can see evidence of positive outcomes from your consultation process.
If you're doing it correctly, you should see tangible improvements in health and safety.
Do you have any other measures for successful WHS consultation?
